The Cloud: A Transformative Business Model in Singapore?
Cloud computing is fast shaping the landscape of IT services over the world. While the global trend has taken its time to reach the Asia-Pacific region, it is definitely beginning to make an impact on businesses in the region.
While for some regions the concept of Cloud still remains a buzzword, most have warmed up to the idea and are already on their way to accepting it as a part of their business model. Leading the way in this change of mood is Singapore.
Singapore is fast gaining the reputation for a strategic market for the adoption and subsequent expansion of the Cloud. Most companies only leverage Cloud Services to an extent in order to support an existing framework and model. A handful have though adopted the Cloud as a transformative business model, whereby the existing model has either been replaced with a Cloud driven skeleton, or the model is re-shaped to align with the principles of Cloud.
The stats say it is only the beginning
An example or proof of how the Cloud concept is progressing in the region is the prediction made by analyst firm IDC, which says that nearly 12,000 jobs will be created in the Cloud domain alone, in Singapore. Most of this is down to companies prepared to absorb Cloud as an intrinsic part of the business model or shape the model around it. One of the main reasons that cloud becomes a suitable core model is the fact that its flexibility makes it easily scalable. As a result, if the business model is based around the nucleus of a cloud, it becomes a lot easier to add or subtract from the model, in any capacity, any element. The trend will only grow and you can expect a lot more businesses preferring to be shaped by the cloud.
