Hybrid Cloud: The Best of Both Worlds blog series by Joe Weinman
Recently, Joe Weinman, a cloud thought leader, in a blog series called “Hybrid Clouds: The Best of Both Worlds” discussed types of clouds and emphasized on the extraordinary advantages of Hybrid Clouds over private, public or community clouds. The series is focused on enhancing knowledge on different Hybird Cloud architectures, scenarios and use cases. Also, his series explains why companies are preferring hybrid clouds over private or public ones and factors that support theories predicting a popular and bright future for hybrid cloud providers and users.
The series discusses hybrid cloud issues under the following headings:
- Difference between Private, Public and Hybrid cloud solutions
- Different hybrid cloud scenarios
- The economic advantages of hybrid cloud solution
- Technology approach for successful implementation of hybrid model
While options for running applications are in abundance and are working with either private or public clouds. However, more than the term private cloud, then notion of a computing environment matters.
The economic perspective of private and public crows can be is exemplified by one extreme of owned, dedicated resources that incur a fixed cost regardless of what is used and per-use shared resources that incur a variable cost as they are used. It’s like either you can own an apartment (private cloud) or you can rent it like an apartment (public).
However, the author believes that an approach that uses a mix of private and public cloud – hybrid cloud – can be seen as a middle point with maximum advantages from type of clouds. For example, either you can buy a permanent vehicle for you or you can use a public transport. However, for a feel of personal vehicle, you can hire the services of a private cab for as much distance as you want and you’ll pay per-kilometer rate. Now, that’s the advantage of the hybrid clouds.
Why Hybrid Cloud Model has bright future?
The advantages, as stated by the author, will expand over a wide range of factors ranging from lower total cost, enhanced performance, greater resiliency and availability, reduced time to market and time to volume, enhanced user experience with more flexibility. The author supports higher utility of hybrid cloud model based on the behavior of the market. The transportations services in any society comprise of the public and private services and similarly there are private and public service provider for almost every service people will need in the market. The seamless interoperability between private cloud and public cloud is crucial like any other model working in the market.
